The Wolves Need to Make a Trade
Are They Willing to Give Up Shake and TBJ?
If Not, They Could End Up as a Taxpayer Team
Dropping one home game by 3 isn't the end of the world. They've won 5 away games and 3 home games, including a stretch of 4 straight road games. So why are we talking about a trade?
Right now, as currently constructed, we have 15 players on our roster. That's a lot of bodies to juggle, and it's starting to show. We're not getting enough minutes for everyone, and it's starting to affect our play.
I think that the Wolves were definitely exploring the trade market for him, but they just weren't willing to give him away for peanuts. And I don't blame them. He's a good player, and he's still young. But if we're going to make a trade, we need to be willing to give up more than just Shake and TBJ.
If not, we could end up as a taxpayer team. That means we'll be paying more in luxury taxes than we're taking in from our players' salaries. That's not a good place to be.
So what's the best realistic trade we could come up with? Here's one idea:
- The Wolves trade Shake Milton, Thybulle, and a future first-round pick to the Lakers for Russell Westbrook.
This trade would give us a much-needed point guard, and it would also clear up some cap space. Westbrook is a veteran who knows how to win, and he would be a great addition to our team.
Of course, there are no guarantees in the NBA. But this is a trade that I think could help us take the next step.
