William Ellis Porter II, known professionally as Billy Porter, is an American actor and singer born on September 21, 1969. Porter gained prominence for his performances on Broadway before embarking on a solo music career.

Porter first made his mark as a theatrical performer, building a reputation for his powerful vocals and charismatic stage presence. His breakthrough role came in the Tony Award-winning musical "Kinky Boots," for which he received the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical.

In addition to his acting career, Porter has also pursued a successful music career, releasing several albums and singles. His Grammy-nominated song, "Love," has become an anthem for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Porter is an outspoken advocate for HIV awareness and prevention. In 2021, he revealed his 14-year battle with HIV, using his platform to raise awareness about the stigma surrounding the disease.

In 2019, Porter made history by becoming the first openly gay Black man to be nominated for and win an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, for his performance in the FX series "Pose."
