Israel Anti Government Protests Intensify

Israel Anti-Government Protests Intensify

Massive Crowds Descend on Tel Aviv

Tens of Thousands March on Jerusalem

Thousands of Israelis took to the streets of Tel Aviv on Sunday in one of the largest anti-government rallies in recent history. The demonstrators, estimated to number over 100,000 by police, marched through the city's downtown area, blocking major traffic arteries and chanting slogans against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The protests come amid growing anger at Netanyahu's handling of the country's economy and his efforts to pass a law that would give him immunity from prosecution. The prime minister, who has served as Israel's leader for more than a decade, is facing his gravest domestic crisis in years.

Meanwhile, thousands of other Israelis marched along the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway toward the capital city of Jerusalem. The protesters blocked traffic and waved signs demanding Netanyahu's resignation. They also clashed with police, who used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowd.

President Isaac Herzog of Israel has begun his meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu in a last-minute attempt to defuse the crisis. It is unclear if the talks will be successful.
