Patrick Swayze, Star of 'Dirty Dancing' and 'Ghost,' Dies at 57

Subhead: Swayze, who had been battling pancreatic cancer, passed away Monday at his ranch in New Mexico.

The actor, dancer and singer-songwriter was best known for his roles in 'Dirty Dancing' (1987) and 'Ghost' (1990).

Patrick Swayze, the hunky actor who danced his way into viewers' hearts with "Dirty Dancing" and then broke them with "Ghost," died Monday at his ranch in New Mexico. He was 57.

Swayze had been battling pancreatic cancer for the past 20 months. He was diagnosed in March 2008 and underwent surgery in January 2009 to remove part of his pancreas. Swayze continued to work throughout his illness, starring in the A&E series "The Beast" until just a few weeks before his death.

"Patrick Swayze was an iconic figure in the entertainment industry," said his publicist, Annett Wolf. "He was a talented actor, dancer and singer, and he will be deeply missed by his fans and friends."

Swayze is survived by his wife, Lisa Niemi, and his two children.
